Windsor Castle Hotel was recently refurbished and I was invited along to check it out at their launch event showcasing their new interior, along with some entertainment. Windsor is one of my favourite places to visit in the UK so I jumped at the chance of going back.
Located directly opposite Windsor castle, this hotel is ideally situated and is surrounded by historical beauty. You’re just 5 minutes walk from the train station and a couple of minutes from shops and restaurants, making it a great location for exploring the town.
Good points: This is a truly beautifully presented hotel with the perfect mix of traditional character and modern comfort. When you arrive at the entrance, you get the immediate “wow” factor. I was greeted by a very friendly member of staff who checks me in via an ipad of sorts. There is no standing behind a desk which makes the staff more approachable.
I found my room to be spotless clean with a definite luxury-feel. They even provided a welcome slate of petit fours (that I couldn’t eat – wahhh!) The bed was super comfortable and there was no noise disturbance meaning I could get a good night’s sleep.
The evening itself was very enjoyable. Free drinks, live music, tours of the hotel and plenty of food (none of which I could eat, unfortunately – see points below). The hotel had clearly gone to a lot of effort and it really paid off as everyone seemed to be having a great night!
Bad points: I agreed to review this hotel on the proviso that it catered for vegans. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case and I ended up having to eat out at a local Zizis restaurant and grab a snack from Cafe Nero for breakfast. I would have even been happy to have just toast for breakfast had they had an option for dairy-free spread or jam. My only choices for dinner was soup or a plain salad which didn’t sound very filling and I think of those as more of side dishes or starters.
For the event, they had put on a beautiful spread with a buffet, filled with gorgeous patisserie treats, none of which were vegan friendly! I asked if that had some crisps or something for me to snack on but they didn’t have any. I was offered a tomato (lol). But really, this was the only down side to staying at this hotel.
Would I stay there again? Yes, now knowing that I would have to plan to eat out and perhaps bring some snacks for the hotel room. It really is a gorgeous hotel so it would be worth staying in again and hopefully they will provide more options for vegans in the future.
